ARTISTS
Abel Kesteven's work is mostly concerned in the relationships between people, or people and animals. Conveying movement is an underlying aim as is the theme or idea of work/activity. He will always work from life and his aim is to translate what he sees in the most minimal and direct way through a single line. He has a different approach to his sculpture work. The subject matter is similar, (animals/people) but they are not usually made from life. He will move the clay around and wait for the form to suggest/reveal itself, relying on his imagination. Elly Platt is a textile artist whose creations are inspired by our interactions with the natural world. She works with discarded or unwanted textiles and other found objects to tell stories about our relationships with our clothes. Her work seeks to highlight the disconnect between clothing as a valuable form of personal expression, and a global fashion system that exploits people and planet. Elly is currently creating work that draws attention to the UK’s water pollution problem. This body of work, centring around the River Wandle, draws attention both to the beauty of the natural environment and the man-made problems that affect it. @takeitupwearitout wwwtakeitupwearitout.co.uk
